Hope

May 26, 2009

Thanks to those that celebrated with us last Friday at War Room! Your continued support is appreciated! Our online shop will be up and running on Monday, June 1st. In the meantime, sit back and enjoy the normally scheduled blog postings.

This next design comes from BBDO Guerrero (“the most awarded creative agency in the Philippines“) for Childhope. Nice packaging that contributes to a good cause.

Childhope

Innovative campaign created by BBDO Guerrero, the most awarded creative agency in the Philippines. 100 of these cans were installed around Manila to encourage donations and show the difference that a small donation to Childhope can make a street child’s life. Now this is packaging that makes a difference!

Summer Days

May 19, 2009

Times are tough, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun! Here are some resources and tips on how to find free and cheap ways to enjoy the summer days.

Community Festivals
http://www.festivals.com/
Looking for city-wide festivals in your local community or in neighboring communities? Festivals.com is the best resource I’ve yet found for collecting listings of all of these festivals. While it doesn’t include everything, it does point out lots of interesting activities near your zip code all throughout the summer.

Music Festivals
http://www.festivalfinder.com/
Once you get beyond mega-festivals like Bonnaroo, there are a lot of music festivals all across the country, and many are surprisingly inexpensive (sometimes free). Such festivals are a great way to hear lots of interesting music and meet people who have similar interests.

National Parks
http://www.nps.gov/findapark/
A national parks pass can be one of the best frugal investments around. National parks are wonderful places to explore, camp, hike, and enjoy. The stunning beauty and majesty of nature found within many of the parks is well worth visiting.

The weather has been nice and it’s starting to look a lot like summer, but there have been some rainy spots here and there. Here’s a video to display how I feel about the weather.

And I can’t forget, Happy 21st Birthday, Joyce aka @jca19.

Nintendo

May 18, 2009

Many of you may remember when its name and console were synonymous, and we all had secret ways to get the games to work: blowing the cartridge, pushing the game down right as it was seated in the slot, praying that it would just somehow work, etc. Now, there’s a new way to play those classic NES games: on the go.

The Retro Mini Handheld NES ($50 available from Think Geek) runs off 4 AA batteries (lasts 8 hours), has a 2.4″ LCD screen, built in speakers, headphone jack, and composite A/V cables to connect to a TV. This unit fits those old school, full-sized NES cartridges.
